Is it true that lesbians have better sex than
straight women? Yes. Yes. Oh my goodness, yes! In polls and studies, women who
sleep with other women consistently report higher levels of sexual satisfaction
than women who have sex with males.
A recent Public Health England poll of over
7,000 women indicated that half of those aged 25 to 34 did not enjoy their sex
life. The ratio fell to 29% among 55- to 64-year-olds, indicating that sex for
women improves with age.
"Enjoying a good sex life is vital for
women's mental and emotional welfare," said Sue Mann, a public health specialist
participating in the study. Of course, this is correct. Surprisingly, when
asked about the study's breakdown of women's sexualities, PHE stated that it
had not obtained this information from respondents; instead, results were
classified by geography, deprivation, ethnicity, religion, marital status, and
age.
Previous global research, however, reveals
that women who have sex with women are more likely to be among the half who do
not express sexual unhappiness. According to a 2014 research published in the
Journal of Sexual Medicine, lesbians orgasmed 75% of the time during sex,
compared to 61% of heterosexual women. Men's sexual orientation, on the other
hand, did not appear to have much of an effect on their rates of orgasm - gay
males reported coming 85% of the time, whereas heterosexual men reported coming
86% of the time.
The Kinsey Institute conducted far larger
research of 53,000 Americans in 2017 and found slightly different results, but
with similar trends. Lesbians reported coming 86% of the time during sex,
compared to 65% of straight women. Straight guys reported orgasming 95% of the
time.
So, where does lesbian sex go right for
women, whereas heterosexual sex goes wrong? "It's straightforward,"
explains Matty Silver, an Australian sexual health therapist. “Lesbian women
know where their clitoris is and know what to do with it to attain an orgasm.
Because they don't have to show their lesbian partner what to do, their sexual
satisfaction is higher.
"Many guys feel they can give their partners
orgasms simply by having intercourse," she adds. "Only 20% of all
women experience this." They frequently require clitoral stimulation or
oral sex to occur. It's one of the reasons why many heterosexual ladies pretend
to have orgasms."
Lesbian couples, like any other couple, come
to Silver for general relationship advice rather than sexual difficulties,
according to Silver.
